The Division of Continuing Medical Education is pleased to expand on our existing Wellness Program with the following series of accredited education sessions. These are intended for people leaders, such as Department and Division Heads, who are looking for Wellness sessions to support their faculty on a wide variety of topics. All sessions are designed to act as a standalone element delivered in a single 1-hour session, or to be combined into a module to support a broader learning engagement (i.e. a half day, full day, etc.). Each session is accredited by CME for 1 hour of Group Learning Activity through the MOC program at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

CME recognizes that a lack of organizational and individual Wellness may well be the single, largest challenge for people leaders and individuals as we move forward through the pandemic and beyond. The evidence is clear: when faculty and learners participate in Wellness and personal health training, the organization and the individual become healthier and more productive. As always, CME remains dedicated to supporting you and your faculty in all areas of your professional growth and evolution.

Individual Series

Sleep | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt
At the end of this session participants should be able to: 

  • Identify and distinguish relevant aspects of sleep architecture  
  • Assess and evaluate the elements that create potential disruptions to restorative sleep 
  • Construct and formulate a cogent plan for successful sleep management 

Time Management | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt
At the end of this session participants should be able to: 

  • Compare and contrast the relevant elements that are incorporated into a time Management matrix 
  • Explain the requirement of a prioritization element in the successful application of time management 
  • Explain and contrast the elements of procrastination and motivation  

Habits and Habit Formation | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt
At the end of this session participants should be able to: 

  • Compare and contrast Goals vs. Systems 
  • Distinguish and explain the Laws of Behavior 
  • Comprehend the importance of a change habit plan  

Navigating Change | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt
At the end of this session participants should be able to: 

  • Identify, evaluate, and explain what happens during times of stress and change 
  • Compare and contrast proactive vs. reactive approaches to change 
  • Prepare creative solutions that best address creating successful outcomes in the face of change  

Mindfulness in Professional Practice | Presenter: 
At the end of this session participants should be able to: 

  • Compare and contrast the evidence related to mindful practice in support of the health, care and safety of patients and healthcare workers. 
  • Recognize the definition and principles of mindful practice and integrate the critical role of self-compassion. 
  • Adopt and apply the strategies of mindfulness and self-compassion that can be applied to one’s personal and professional life. 
  • Identify how mindfulness cultivated in community can lead to culture and system change within healthcare 

Burnout, Sadness, Depression, and How to Manage | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt 
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Explain and define burnout 
  • Compare and contrast the states of sadness vs. depression 
  • Outline an approach to manage and/or treat mood disruptions 

Anxiety and How to Manage | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt 
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast Anxiety vs. Stress 
  • Explain generalized and social anxiety symptoms  
  • Design an initial approach of how to manage and/or treat anxiety 

Anger and Forgiveness | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt 
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast state vs. trait anger 
  • Compare and contrast anger expression vs. anger control 
  • Describe and define composure 
  • Investigate ways to manage anger 
  • Define what forgiveness is and what it is not 
  • Explain why it is important to forgive 
  • Formulate an approach to forgive ourselves and others 

Emotional Agility (based on the work of Dr. Susan David’s, Emotional Agility) and Emotional Regulation | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt 
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Explain Emotional Regulation and Dysregulation and its Causes 
  • Explain and analyze Emotional Agility? (Based on Dr. Susan David’s work) 
  • Construct an approach that integrates necessary steps to become more emotionally regulated and agile 

Coping with Stress | Presenter: Dr. Alana Holt 
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Assess and evaluate the impact of stress on the autonomic nervous system  
  • Examine the links between stress and human performance 
  • Construct an initial approach to managing stress
