Target Audience

Family physicians, specialist physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, pharmacists, physiotherapists, social worker, residents, researchers, health sciences students, and other health care professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this conference, participants will be able to:

  • Utilize tools to support pain patients in mental health crisis
  • Explain an evidence-based approach for nutrition advice for chronic pain patients
  • Apply the PEER simplified chronic pain guidelines for the management of chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis and neuropathic pain
  • Navigate the Saskatchewan Chronic Pain Pathway from a provider perspective
  • Create boundaries and decrease health care provider burnout through self-care strategies

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan for up to 6.0 credit hours.

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: This activity is an Accredited Simulation Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan. Pediatric Pain Conference

Building capacity and connections to support chronic pain services for children and families in Saskatchewan

Date: Friday, November 25, 2022, 12:00 pm-4:00 pm
Location: Virtual via Zoom

The Pediatric Pain Conference will provide an opportunity for participants to enhance their awareness and knowledge of chronic pain in children. Children, youth and families will share their journey with pediatric chronic pain to improve understanding of challenges and opportunities associated with this prevalent condition. An established interprofessional pediatric chronic pain management team from the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, including Dr. Allen Finley, will share their biopsychosocial approach to the management of pediatric chronic pain. This will be a virtual event.

Conference Objectives:

At the end of this conference, participants will be able to:

  • Describe assessment and treatment approaches for pediatric chronic pain
  • Describe the interprofessional roles integral to the biopsychosocial management of pediatric chronic pain.
  • Consider the journey and experience of children/teens and their families living with chronic pain.
  • Participate in discussion and networking regarding pediatric chronic pain.
