Learn the medical-legal requirements to effectively evaluate and report medically at-risk drivers.

Overview

Online Modules:

The Fitness to Drive course is a comprehensive course that offers detailed information in the following main areas:

Module 1: Introduction: Overview of the Purpose and Function of the Fitness to Drive Program
Module 2: Cognitive Impairment
Module 3: General Medical Conditions
Module 4: Physical Impairment
Module 5: Alcohol, Drugs, Psychiatry
Module 6: Miscellaneous Cases
Module 7: Wrap Up Session: Summarizes the modules and deals with any outstanding questions or concerns
 
Each area provides several cases that highlight how one should proceed and even queries you on what you should do. The course also provides a segment on Screening Tools, Miscellaneous Resources and a Glossary. Finally there is a short quiz at the end of each module to test your knowledge and Discussion topics to discuss key areas of content in the course.

Registration

The next iteration of the course will begin January 15, 2024. Please note that you should expect to spend between 12 - 15 hours working through the course materials and most learners will complete this in an 8 - 12 week period.

Registration Fee: $100.00 +taxes

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College)

Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

Section 3: Self-Assessment Accreditation Statement: This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan. You may claim a maximum of 2 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

Section 2: Self-Learning: Participants are reminded that the 3 hours of video presentations are a valuable source of Section 2 Credits in the MOC framework- Self-Learning. Video, Audio or Podcast learning activities can be claimed for 0.5 credits per activity.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada: This one-credit-per-hour Self-Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan for up to 12 Mainpro+ credits.
