To register for the NRP Instructor course you must complete both the NRP Instructor Course Application Form and submit an Institutional Support Form signed by your manager or organization lead.

Once your documents have been reviewed, you will be notified by e-mail regarding your application and provided with information to proceed in registering for the course. Please remit your application and Institutional Support Form no later than 30 days prior to the course to allow adequate time for the review of your application and for you to complete any outstanding requirements for attendance.

Registration Fees:
$425.00 + $21.25 GST = $446.25 (Includes the NRP Instructor Manual 5th ed.)
$350.00 + $17.50 GST = $367.50 (Does not include the NRP Instructor Manual)

*Registration includes GST, course materials and refreshment breaks. Lunch is on your own.

Participants are responsible for obtaining their own copy of the 7th edition NRP Provider Manual directly from the Canadian Pediatric Society. Eligibility requirements for the NRP Instructor Course:

To become an NRP Instructor, you must meet the eligibility requirements as established by the Canadian Paediatrics Society and the Saskatchewan NRP Advisory Committee.

  • One of the following: Licensed Physician (Resident or Fellow), Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, or Registered Midwife.
  • Work for and have the support of an organization that provides newborn care and will support neonatal education programming.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience providing obstetrical / neonatal care, including a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an NRP Provider
  • Completed a NRP Provider course (with Advanced Individual Integrated Skills Station - ISSA) in the past 24 months
  • Completed the 7th edition Online Exam within the last twelve (12) months of the course.  If it has been longer than 12 months, you will need to re-take the exam in the 30 days prior to the course.

If you are applying for the NRP Instructor course from outside the province of Saskatchewan, you will need a letter of support from the province/regional NRP committee where you will be teaching prior to being accepted into the course.  If you are unsure of who to contact, you can go to the Canadian Pediatric Society to access a list of the Provincial NRP Organization Liaisons at

Pre-course Preparation:

Participants are expected to prepare for the course including:

  • Review the 7th edition (2016) Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook. Additional Canadian resources pertaining to the 7th edition should be reviewed and can be found at Please note:  Participants are responsible to obtain their own copy of the Provider textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation. Employees of the Saskatchewan Health Authority have institutional access to the digital copy of the textbook through the SHA Library. Further details will be sent following acceptance into the course.
  • Review of the NRP Instructor Manual 2011. All NRP Instructors and Instructor Candidates must have their own copy or be able to have access to the manual through their organization. When registering you will be provided with the option to purchase the manual in addition to the course fees at the time of registration. 
  • At the course, participants will be expected to show proficiency in performing an Advanced Individual Integrated Skills Station (ISSA), prepare a scenario in which to conduct an ISSA in the role of Instructor as well as prepare & present an interactive Performance Skills Station of approximately 10 minutes in length. Further information will be included in your confirmation letter. It is highly recommended that you practice NRP skills with your NRP site Instructor prior to attending the course.

Registration as a NRP Instructor:

Participants are eligible to register with the Canadian Pediatric Society as an NRP Instructor following successful completion of the NRP Instructor course & at least 1 “Team Teach” at an NRP Provider course supervised by an NRP Instructor Trainer (IT) or Delegate as identified by the IT.  Following the Team Teach, the new Instructor must remit a completed Instructor registration form and Instructor fee of $115.00 + $5.75 GST = $120.75 to the CPS to obtain instructor status. To maintain Instructor status, Instructors must teach a minimum of 2 NRP courses in two years, remit Instructors fees every three years to the CPS and regularly update their status in accordance with the Canada Pediatrics Society and Saskatchewan NRP Steering Committee guidelines. The Instructor MUST be registered with the Canadian Pediatric Society to teach NRP Provider courses.

Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) Education Bank

Up to three thousand dollars ($3000.00) of fees for recognized continuing medical education (CME) activities can be recovered each year by Saskatchewan physicians from the CME fund as managed by the SMA.

Please note that we accept payment only by credit card or institutional/company cheque payable to the University of Saskatchewan. Registrations will not be processed until payment is received. Fees include lunch and event materials.

Refund policy: Cancellations must be received in writing two weeks prior to the course and will be subject to a $60.00 + GST administration fee. Refunds will not be considered within the 2 week period preceding the course. Continuing Medical Education cannot accept registration substitutions. The University of Saskatchewan, Division of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel the course due to insufficient registration or circumstances beyond our control. Each registrant will be notified with a full refund following. Continuing Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan is not responsible for any other costs including, but not limited to, airline or hotel penalties.
