Conference Objectives

UGME POCUS | Highlighting the Canadian Medical Students' Ultrasound Curriculum as well as exploring key challenges including integration into the broader curriculum, equipment needs and assessment.

PGME POCUS | With focus on competency based medical education (CBME) including entrustable scores and competency committees.

CME POCUS | Highlighting the need for longitudinal learning opportunities with CME recognition, supervision (both direct and indirect), scanning bootcamps and the role of assessment for credentialling.

Target Audience

All clinicians who use and teach POCUS. Family Physicians (regional and rural sites), Emergency Physicians, Internists, Anesthetists, Intensivists, Pediatricians, Residents. Medical students are encouraged to attend.

POCUS Educator's Summit

With increasing demands on POCUS training within the medical education spectrum, there are growing calls for guidance on curricular aspects like choosing what to teach, how to assess it, and how to define and determine competence in POCUS at all stages of training. Overall learner objectives include presenting the best available medical education evidence on POCUS in UGME, PGME and CME.

Schedule

Review timeline, topics, speakers & session specific learning objectives. Schedule is subject to change.

Lectures

All attendees will participate in each of the UGME, PGME & CME lectures.

Attendees will then have a choice of 1 of 3 breakout discussions to engage with POCUS experts.

All paid registrants will receive a recording of each lecture and all discussions (within 10 days post-event).

Discussions

Each of the three main topics will be followed by a set of interactive discussions/breakout rooms (virutal) helping participants put ideas to paper/laptop while also getting a chance to ask/discuss challenges or questions with our experts.

Workshops will include topics such as: Giving a good POCUS lecture, Teach POCUS during clinical work, Preparing POCUS curriculum proposals, Using POCUS assessment tools, Completing EPA scores and narratives.

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan  for up to 3 credit hours. 

The College of Family Physicians of Canada: This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the Continuing Medical Education Division, University of Saskatchewan for up to 3 Mainpro+ credits.   

Other Healthcare Professionals: Participation in this conference may be included as part of the continuing education and competence programs established by individual professional associations.
